Today we’d like to introduce you to Alessandro Alessandroni.
Hi Alessandro, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I was born into a musical family in Rome, Italy. My father, Alessandro Alessandroni, a whistler, guitar player, choir conductor, and composer, worked on the “Spaghetti Westerns” with Ennio Morricone and many other movies as well as TV shows. My mother a singer. I moved to Boston, Massachusetts in 1982 to attend Berklee College of Music, which I graduated from in 1985. Then in 1988, I auditioned for Bobby Brown and got the gig, which prompted my moving to Los Angeles. From 1988 until 2020, I toured and/or recorded as a keyboard player and musical director with Bobby Brown, Babyface, Whitney Houston, Don Felder, Christina Aguilera, Pink, Nelly Furtado, Paul Stanley, Charlie Wilson, John Sykes, Faith Evans, Supersonic Blues Machine, and many others. In 2020, the pandemic put a halt on all musical activities, and my wife, who is from Japan, decided to open a restaurant in Hollywood. I helped at the restaurant for the two years we were open and even started a weekly jam session which lasted until we eventually closed. As the pandemic came to an endemic, I began to work again, mainly with Paul Stanley and Supersonic Blues Machine, as well as a few sessions here and there. At the start of 2023, I decided to begin my career as an artist, and on July 15th, I released my first solo piano record, “Melodies of Life,” under the artist name Alex Alessandroni Jr. It’s exciting!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
As long as I can remember, it was never a smooth road—not as a student or professional musician, not as a husband or a father, and even now as an artist. However, life has taught me that if I look at obstacles not as problems but as opportunities, I can discover abilities that previously laid dormant in my life; hence I can grow and evolve.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I spent the last 35 years on the road and in recording studios as a piano player, keyboard player, arranger, and musical director. A few times during my tenure on the road with Natalie Cole, I had to invent myself as an orchestral conductor (although I studied conducting at Berklee, standing in front of a symphony orchestra was intimidating), and a few times, I sang backup vocals. Growing up with my father, I was taught a great deal about work ethic, which helped me a lot in my career.
Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
Yes, this album “Melodies of Life”, a collection of 14 compositions written between 2003 and 2023, is born out of my need to search, amplify, and deepen my artistic mission and through which I intend to share my life.
