Hi Doris, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
During the crazy days of the COVID-19 pandemic, I found happiness in the kitchen, finding my love for baking. It all began with a simple batch of birthday cupcakes for my husband, each one carefully decorated and bursting with flavor. As I shared my creations on social media, the demand for my delicious treats grew. Over time, my skills got better, and my little side business blossomed into something more extraordinary. Today, I am proud to say that I craft beautiful wedding/custom cakes, gourmet cupcakes, and a variety of delectable desserts.  Each one a symbol of joy, love, and hard work. What started as a way to fill the time during lockdowns has transformed into a fulfilling and delicious journey that continues to bring smiles to people’s faces on their most special days.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Starting a side baking business can be an exciting endeavor, but it’s not without its challenges. One of the initial struggles I faced was balancing my new venture with all my existing commitments, such as a full-time job and family responsibilities. Finding the time to bake, market my business, and manage the orders was and is very demanding. Building a customer base and gaining their trust also took time and effort, as competition in the baking industry is fierce. Lastly, navigating the complex web of permits, licenses, and health regulations was a daunting task. However, with determination, dedication, and delicious desserts, overcoming these challenges are rewarding for me and my business.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Wicked Cakes is a Latina-owned small business that specializes in creating custom-designed cakes and bite-sized desserts for various occasions, including birthdays, weddings, and special events. What sets me apart is my commitment to both specialty Latin flavors and creative designs. I’m known for my attention to detail and the ability to transform clients’ ideas into delicious, visually stunning desserts. I take pride in the positive feedback I receive from satisfied customers, as it reflects our dedication to delivering high-quality, unique desserts that leave a lasting impression. My ability to balance creativity and taste is what I’m most proud of.

Can you share something surprising about yourself?
Something surprising that most people who know my work might not be aware of—I absolutely love being a nerd. Beyond the flour, sugar, and icing, I’m deeply passionate about all things geeky. From sci-fi and fantasy to video games and comic books, my inner nerd thrives in the realm of pop culture. This passion for geekdom often finds its way into my designs, where I’ve crafted intricate desserts inspired by beloved franchises. So, while I create delicious confections, there’s a hidden layer of nerdiness beneath the frosting that adds an extra layer of delight to my work.
