Today we’d like to introduce you to David Schaefer.
Hi David, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Let’s time-travel back to my childhood.
My life until now was a complete rollercoaster ride lol, with many backpacks filled with full of valuable positive and negative life experiences.
What doesn’t kill us makes us stronger.
After my sick childhood, being born with a heart defect, I started 2008 my entertainment journey in a Disney pop band signed to a major record label in Germany. I was part of an international pop band.
Before this opportunity presented itself, I sent a lot of at this time demo CDs with my low-quality recorded songs to record labels and management.
I also sang for many years as a demo singer for different music producers and music studios for dance productions and other genres to gain experiences as a vocalist singer DJs could use for their productions.
After many years of trying to get my foot into the music industry, one well-known music manager gratefully gave me a chance and invited me to a pop band audition in Cologne Germany.
After many years of failing, I was honestly at the point of giving up after getting so many nos. Music is a very competitive industry, and I had to learn the hard way that you will hear more nos than yes same in acting and modeling I experienced.
He showed me the light at the end of the tunnel with his offer.
I sang three songs a cappella. Long story short few days later, I got the call I made it into the final pop band.
After my recording contract ended, I was gratefully getting a chance from an Austrian model agent and traveling the world as an international model for many years until I started my acting journey with student films, later feature films, and commercials.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
My life was never a smooth road started by being sick as a child with a heart defect and then facing the challenges as a kid being bullied in schools. I always tried hard to be a strong character as a child and now. If you can choose peace, always choose the peaceful way in life.
I always had this sense of justice and helped others.
Besides those negative experiences, I also had an amazing childhood I’m forever grateful for especially to my family. Before successes arrived, my entertainment journey also was full of obstacles; some I created myself, and some were just part of life for us to grow and learn. I used to be very naive.
When you’re young, you know it all better and when you get older, you accept more and let go.
I believe life is full of experiences, we can call earth as a big school for us to learn. I learned a lot about myself and others that’s for sure 🙂
We face so many beautiful moments but also sad ones or disappointments or some that make us angry.
I always try to see the big picture and know that everything that happened to me was part of a bigger plan or journey for me to become the version I am today.
I forgive myself and others and try to live in the moment.
(Carpe Diem) or like Friedrich Nietzsche’s Says Amor Fati, which means if I’m right A Love Of One’s Fate.
I try to accept things more; maybe it’s a form of getting older and trying to change the things I can change and influence and accept the ones I can’t.
No one is perfect; we are just here for a while and able to learn, which is a beautiful thing.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m already 15 years in the entertainment industry. I’m an actor singer songwriter and international model who was on the cover of the well-known fitness magazine called Men’s Health.
Some would call me a triple-threat artist because I do it all with a lot of heart and passion. I love art.
I think most proud I am of my men’s health cover because it has always been a boy’s dream of mine since I was sick as a child. It’s a little bit ironic being sick and then being on the biggest fitness magazine men’s health cover, but that shows you in life, all is possible. Never give up!
I’m also proud to be able to have acted in a ww1 movie which is a beautiful historical movie which no one can take from me. Thanks to the director and casting team who gave me this chance.
Even if I stop acting tomorrow, I can say I acted in a ww1 movie which is a beautiful memory.
Playing a character and acting in a ww1 film was personally for me a very memorable and humbling experience. I hope I will be able to play in future more of those kinds of roles in movies. I hope I can make an impact with my roles so that the world will be a more peaceful place.
We have a beautiful planet we should appreciate and protect.
The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you and any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
Yes, during Covid 19 I had a lot of time, like we most probably all had to think about life and our existence. I asked myself many questions also philosophical ones. During Covid was also when I started writing and finished my memoir book and started another book.
I always write for myself I learned it’s a great therapy especially because of all the experiences I have been through I love writing this all on paper. Who knows, maybe one day I release what I have written down. Also, I learned during Covid to spend more time with myself and solitude. Almost every weekend if I’m free I take my backpack and go hiking in Switzerland or wherever I am. I love nature and animals; it makes me so calm.
I also have written new music during Covid which I will release at some point. What I also learned is that during Covid I learned who are my friends and who are not my friends, who I can trust and who I can not trust.
I’m a very social person who loves people but also learned the hard way that not everyone is my friend. People have their own life and problems, and that’s totally understandable. During Covid my circle got a lot smaller. The circle of trust lol.
