Hi Martha, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I began my career as a Certified Nursing Assistant. I then became a Registered Nurse, and now I am a Family Nurse Practitioner. It’s safe to say that I always knew that I would be in the industry of service. My journey in the assisted living industry began when I was a Registered Nurse. I had hard moments where I would be disappointed in the care of seniors. I specifically remember an elderly lady that I cared for. For some reason, we bonded well. As months passed, she was still in the hospital as it was difficult to place her elsewhere. I remember during our last conversation, I told her “If I could take you home with me, I would.” That stuck with me. I eventually opened my own assisted living facility, Peace of His Cornerstone. LLC. Once I mastered this industry, I started my very own coaching and consulting firm, Strategic Success 316. I now teach people how to establish and operate their own assisted living facility.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The road has not been easy, but the tough moments are what helped me to operate at my best. I had to learn how to handle difficult work situations in a professional manner. I also had to learn how to prioritize myself so that I could avoid being burnt out. I wanted to quit during my first two years in business. The moment I sat down with my mentor to narrow out the pros and cons of my company, I realized that I never gave myself a break. From there, I established boundaries, implemented stress and time management, created flexibility, and made it a mission to remind myself that I can’t control life.

Strategic Success 316 is a coaching and consulting firm that provides clients with the essential tools and knowledge to operate and establish assisted living facilities of exceptional quality and distinction within the industry. Outside of assisted living facilities, Strategic Success 316 offers general business education such as business plan development, incorporation assistance, assistance with building credit, hiring processes and so much more.
I am known as an assisted living facility coach. I not only help open and run assisted living facilities, but I also train caregivers and staff on how to provide 24/7 nursing care, medication administration, or mood and behavior monitoring, and more to the elderly. I help caregivers become certified nursing assistants. This contributes to the success of the assisted living facility even more so.
What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
These two words are that helped me to get where I am today: Passion and excellence. Passion is all about loving what you do. Passion is like fuel to our goals and dreams, it wakes up our perseverance and motivation; it gives us the energy to always see the positives in a negative situation and believe we can be successful.
Excellence, on the other hand, is how good you are in relation to how good you individually can be. Achieving excellence is being the best you can be, regardless of how good anyone else is. It’s you improving and achieving your individual level of mastery. Excellence is a practice.
