Today we’d like to introduce you to Jennifer Ordonio.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I am an aesthetic nurse practitioner in Los Angeles. I specialize in cosmetic and regenerative medicine. I have been performing injectables such as Botox and dermal fillers since 2018.
I was born in the Philippines and grew up in the Pacific Northwest. About ten years ago, I moved to Los Angeles. I have been a registered nurse since 2009 and then in 2018, I received my Master of Science in nursing degree at Charles Drew University of Medicine and Science. During my initial nursing career, I specialized in nephrology. Soon after I received my master’s degree, I switched gears and changed my nursing path from nephrology to aesthetic medicine and I haven’t looked back since. I have always been fascinated by art and beauty and that is what pushed me towards aesthetic medicine.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Breaking into the aesthetic industry is not easy– well for me, at least. In my early nursing career, I would dabble in aesthetics by working part-time or per diem in plastic surgery offices and laser clinics, but I never had the opportunity to learn to inject.
When I became a nurse practitioner, I decided to dive right into aesthetics with no injecting experience. I did not know anyone who worked in this field. I remember applying at every medical spa around Los Angeles County and continually getting rejected because I had no injecting experience. It was disheartening but I never stopped trying!
Finally a plastic surgery office took a chance on me and my aesthetic journey started from there. Since then, I have attended extensive training, shadowing and mentorships. This took a substantial amount of investment and time, but it was all worth it because it got me to where I am at now.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I specialize in aesthetic, cosmetic and regenerative medicine. I connect together beauty, art and science into what I do. I practice facial balancing and natural aesthetics. I don’t just “fill” people’s faces or try to sell things. I focus on what I can do to help keep people rejuvenated by enhancing what they already have. People come to me to look refreshed and refined. I am very honest with everyone. I also strive to create a positive space for people so when they leave me they feel confident and beautiful. I am all about inclusion because as a Filipino American, I know firsthand that each culture has its own unique characteristics. I think diversity and inclusivity are important in the beauty industry because every person we see has an individual and unique look. There is beauty in everything.
How do you think about happiness?
I always strive to do my best and I know I give my all when seeing each and every patient. It is so rewarding when my patients tell me they feel confident and happy. This makes me happy and gives me peace. When people come to see me, not only do we do treatments, we also catch up, we laugh and talk about life. I have made quality relationships with patients and this makes my heart full. I am now doing something that I am passionate about. Sometimes I sit back and think about the hardships I faced in the beginning and it makes me very proud of what I have accomplished. I also mentor and train colleagues who want to learn and excel in the field. I love teaching because I know how hard it was for me to learn so it is definitely rewarding to be able to give back. From being rejected left and right, to having patients fly from across the country to see me, I am truly grateful for it all.
