Today, we’d like to introduce you to Jonny Brenns. Jonny was introduced to us by the brilliant and talented David Deutsch.
Hi Jonny, we’re so thrilled to have you sharing your story with us today. Maybe we can kick things off by having you introduce yourself to our readers? We’d love to have you go into your story and how you got to where you are today.
I’ve been immersed in music since I can remember, but began songwriting sometime during high school. I spent a lot of time debating whether or not I had a story worth telling… Thankfully, the music didn’t stop flowing- & I found an audience and community that responded to the feelings, stories, and pain I knew all too well. I’m incredibly excited to write more genre-defying & (hopefully) world-changing music & share it with the world!
Please talk to us about your creative work and career. What should we know?
Developing my personal art & career has been an incredibly complicated journey, but I’m sure all too common. Deciding to pursue art as a career forced me to answer questions about my future, my goals, etc… My mental health is equal parts grateful and drained by it- but I wouldn’t have it any other way! I went on American Idol when I was 18 years old without telling my family, and continued to keep it a secret as time progressed. Music is an incredibly intimate and personal thing for me, an incredibly important safe space as I worked through trauma. I am empowered by the love my audience has given me, as I do believe I have a story that others will understand. No matter what you’re experiencing, what you have experienced, or who you see yourself as, I want every listener to feel seen, loved, and safe. I write from personal experience and fairly visceral trauma- my hope is to help others feel less alone, without explicitly triggering traumatic responses or PTSD.
David Deutsch has been a great friend to us and I know you’ve got a great relationship as well. Maybe you can tell our audience a bit about David and your experience with them.
David is an incredibly creative, friend, and vegan. He’s pushed me to redefine my approach to creating music. Excited to play Anfield’s first ever stadium show.
