Meet Andrea Swanson of The House Salon in Mission Viejo

Today we’d like to introduce you to Andrea Swanson.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Andrea. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I’ve been a stylist for over 25 years, working in Corona Del Mar most of my career. My client of over 17 years became my partner and mentor truly giving me an opportunity I couldn’t refuse literally going outside of my comfort zone of cdm., then landing in Mission Viejo to build one of chicest salons in south county… The house salon has grown from a staff of 4 to 24 in less than 2 years. The work our stylist put out into the community is inspiring and top notch! We love each and every person that fills the house. It’s what makes the house salon a home!

Has it been a smooth road?
I think with every new business there are days where you think “oh man what have I done” but I wouldn’t change one thing about watching the house evolve into what it is today…smooth? Um, no! Like hair, it takes product and expertise to make it slick! Lots of it!

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into The House Salon story. Tell us more about the business.
The House has a team of stylist all with years of experience and training behind them. We specialize in all aspects of the hair industry.

There is an energy when you have a team of stylist that actually inspire one another, help bounce ideas, cheer for each other and truly don’t compete, I have been in this business longer than most of my staff and I have never seen the kind of friendship and support that my team has for one another.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
Social Media is huge right now. I have several stylists that have built their clientele and continue to build through their IG accounts. I started in the era of commission salons the shift is definitely towards rental now. The balance of rental comes with knowing you have support if you need it. That’s always our focus when it comes to our team. Providing the space to be successful in our highly competitive industry but with the freedom to run your business the way you want.
