Rising Stars: Meet Gabriela Ono

Today we’d like to introduce you to Gabriela Ono.

Hi Gabriela, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I’m originally from Brazil. I moved to Los Angeles to pursue a master’s degree in film production. After graduation, I joined a production company for non-scripted content, such as reality shows and documentaries. During the pandemic, I got a certificate in screenwriting as well. So far I have produced and released three documentaries: “My Transparent Life”, “Contact: The CE-5 Experience” and “The Call of the Mountain”. I also assist other filmmakers, producers and screenwriters to develop scripted projects, both in the US and Brazil. I also work with the Hollywood Brazilian Film Festival helping bring light to the amazing movies that are screened during the festival.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
I believe to work in this industry, you go through some ups and downs. Sometimes you have a lot of great things happening for you and sometimes you hit the ground hard. But I believe all of these experiences also teach you great lessons. For international professionals, we face the fact that we are so far away from our family members and friends. Of course, we make new friends that become our chosen family, but I would be lying if I said that homesickness isn’t a challenge.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
At the moment, I have been producing paranormal documentaries. One of them has been released already. Contact: The CE-5 Experience follows Dr. Steven Greer who is one of the biggest references in the UFO community. The movie is also being featured on the Amazon documentary section for the past few weeks and the whole team is very excited for the amazing response the community has had with the movie. I have a few more documentaries coming out this year and the next year in which we explore more the possibilities of life across the universe and life after death by visiting haunted places and investigating different aspects of what is on the other side. Some other projects that are on development stages will go even deeper on those topics.

I wasn’t expecting to start producing supernatural content, but I kind of fell into it, and honestly, I’m loving it. I’ve experienced such crazy things by tapping into the paranormal community. And I’m quite surprised with myself, as I grew up a very scared kid. I won’t lie that sometimes is hard to sleep after a shoot, but nothing can’t replace the experience of seeing things firsthand.

Any big plans?
I want to start making more scripted shows and movies. Even though I love documentaries and want to continue making them, I also have a huge passion for screenwriting and want to explore more this aspect of the industry. Not only write my own stories but help screenwriters develop their projects to make the best version of their own stories. Possibly be the producer in those films as well. But it doesn’t matter if the movie is scripted or not, I want to tell stories that are uplifting and help people reflect.
