Today we’d like to introduce you to Anthony Ortiz.
Hi Anthony, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Hi, I’m Anthony Ortiz. I’m a singer and songwriter born in St. Petersburg, Florida and is now based in Los Angeles. I like to think that my music meanders across multiple genres and sub-genres while primarily focusing on pop, pop-punk and R&B. I’ve released 11 studio singles since 2019 and have recently signed to Los Angeles-based label Red Slushy Records.
I guess I didn’t find my affinity towards music until High School when I still did jobs like working at a Laser Tag spot, being a baker at Nestle® Toll House and working at a construction company pumping concrete. There was a point where I was singing live under bridges for extra money, and pretty much haven’t stopped making and performing music since! Now that I live in LA, I’m working with a new team to help put out new material that I’ll be dropping throughout the year and beyond.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It’s been a lot of fun but it has absolutely not been a smooth road. I’ve slept in my car, I’ve changed myself in ways that are not who I am and have realized that I never want to do that again. This whole journey has been a lot of hard work where. Sometimes you don’t feel like you get rewarded, so you just have to remember that it will all count for something one day. It always pays off in the end. I’m also more of a songwriter.
I just love making music, and music was always about being creative and being an extension of you. With where social media is at, it’s become less about the art and more about being socially smart. It’s a business now and much less about musical talent, which means I’ll just have to learn how to navigate my persona.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m an artist, a singer-songwriter, a creative, a skateboarder, and a person who likes to do what I love doing all day long: making music. As for what I do, I make music for myself and hopefully, people can relate to my life experiences and can learn from them. Maybe I’m singing about things that some are afraid to say?
I think that’s what makes me different. I hear a lot of artists who make music to please other people, whereas I make music to please myself.
Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
Number one: always my fans. I wouldn’t be able to do what I do without them. Second to that is my manager Alex Lunt who believes in me more than anyone else. There’s also Randy Phillips, who has been such a good mentor to me. Oh, also the rest of the Anthony Ortiz team who have been working really hard on my new material!
