Hi Shekinah, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I have over twenty years of experience as a licensed Aesthetician and have spent most of my career providing advanced facial treatments in Med Spas and Dermatology practices. I’ve also worked in luxurious five-star hotel spas and for celebrity Aestheticians such as Olga Lorencin and Ole Henriksen.
When the pandemic hit, we all had ample time to ponder relationships, work environments, future goals and avenues that perhaps had been unexplored up until that point. Something I had never done before was practice as a solo Aesthetician. As businesses slowly began to re-open, I chose to finally make the leap and open my own skincare studio.
In my studio (and website also) you can find a curated collection of professional products that range from medical-grade skincare to natural plant-based “green beauty”. I offer this diversity so as to cater to all needs and preferences. I love to custom build skincare regimens and create treatments plans not only for my local clients but also for people all over the world by means of the “virtual consultation” which I have created as a way to make a difference even for those who can’t pay my studio a visit.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I’ve always had the mentality that “nothing worth having comes easy”, and that’s been true for me on this path to becoming a business owner. However, I wouldn’t change anything I have experienced because with hardship comes valuable lessons!
I’ve had extremely trying circumstances… working for people who didn’t see my value, underestimated me, and didn’t provide a work environment that allowed me to excel. This taught me so much about not only what I wanted for my future but also what I definitely did not want.
I now mentor new Aestheticians in-studio and virtually, which is something I would have loved to have had as a new Aesthetician trying to navigate the vast beauty industry alone! Being able to provide this support and mentorship is a way I’ve found that I can give back and share my personal knowledge and experience. It has been so healing and satisfying for me to do this, and I strongly recommend it to those that are masters in their field.

Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
Fact-check everything! Don’t just take what someone tells you as bible. Do your research and learn the truth behind treatments you’re considering, products you’re using, ingredients you’re trying and skin conditions you may be dealing with.
The beauty industry is saturated with mis-information fed to us in compelling and clever ways by celebrities and influencers. Do you’re due diligence to decipher what’s accurate and what’s not.
