Meet Santiago Ribeiro

Today we’d like to introduce you to Santiago Ribeiro. They and their team shared their story with us below:

Santiago Ribeiro is the mentor and promoter of the world’s largest surrealist exhibition of the 21st century, International Surrealism. Now, his work has been exhibited globally, as well as in Berlin, Moscow, New York, Exhibition in Dallas, Los Angeles, Mississippi, Indiana, Denver, Warsaw, Saint Nantes, Paris, London, Vienna, Beijing, Florence, Madrid, Granada, Barcelona, Lisbon, Belgrade, Montenegro, Romania, Japan, Taiwan, Brazil, Minsk, New Delhi, Jihlava (Czech Republic) and Caltagirone in Sicily and several cities in Portugal. Times Square in New York, USA has reported his exhibition information many times, and collectors have collected his works in many countries.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Sometimes, luckily, it has been a smooth path, but most of the times there are obstacles along the way, such as bureaucracy to get spaces as well as funds to be able to carry out the objective, which is just to show our work.

Finally, it is not easy to get to Los Angeles…

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
One day my father brought home 40 art books from the library, and I was amazed by illustrations of impressionist and surrealist art forms. So my first art lesson was looking through these exciting books. Studying pictures made me fall in love with art and paintings. I have attended art classes at the Escola Avelar Brotero and Escola Superior de Educação of Coimbra but I dropped out of school because I preferred to dedicate all my time to painting rather than going to classes. I believe that I have become a surrealist painter even before he knew what surrealism was.

I am most proud of my fathers who supported me in being an artist. My father´s name helped me to most. Now they are not in the living world and things are more difficult even more. It remains for my older sister to support me but it is not the same.

What sets me apart from others is my originality and persistence to make different things.

Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
A lot but one of the most important is how I get results on my own and this is the secret I don’t reveal
