Today we’d like to introduce you to Anthony Wanzer.

Hi Anthony, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I’m originally from Arlington Virginia. I started acting when I was about 20. After many bit parts, industrials, music videos & commercials I made my move to Los Angeles to pursue bigger projects in 2014. After doing my first film in Los Angeles (Assistant Motives) & having my daughter my priorities shifted.

I wanted more control over my time/projects so I started producing & directing. During Covid, I had a serendipitous meeting with comedic legend “Speedy” from Foxxhole Radio (Jamie Foxx cohost from Sirius XM) He invited me to do his spin-off show radio show “Speedy & Friends” which I really enjoyed & I’ve been doing it a little over 2 years now which has led to a career in standup comedy & radio.  I’ve since been introduced to comedic legends such as Jamie Foxx, Mark Howard, Robby Peron, Johnny Mack & Mystro. It is a great honor & a privilege to know & be around such legends. Being able to ask questions and absorb the knowledge is not something I take lightly.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Yes & no. I remember when I decided I wanted to act I had no idea where to begin so I went through the yellow pages and found a casting agency. My aunt took me to my very first meeting with a casting director who told me to get out of her office. She said I hadn’t done anything and I’m no actor. I remember going back to the car laughing with my aunt about what the casting director said to me and brushing it off immediately. One thing you must have in this business is thick skin. You will hear the word no a lot more than you’ll hear yes. After getting my first gig on my own as an extra in (The Replacements) I met someone onset who referred me to whom would be my first manager. After booking many gigs through my manager that same casting director who kicked me out ended up booking me for many jobs over the years and never remembered kicking me out of her office in the first place. The key in this business is to know who you are, what you can do and keep going no matter what.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
As a actor I’ve worked in music videos, television shows and movies. More recently I appeared in the video “Gold” with Amy & Ricky Bell of New Edition/Bell Biv Devoe directed by Megan Good. I’ve appeared in television shows such as, America’s Most Wanted, The West Wing & Veep as well as countless television commercials. I’ve worked on such films as The Bourne Ultimatum, Head Of State, Assistant Motives & more recently Not Another Church Movie (written & directed by Johnny Mack) which has some great surprises! I’m really looking forward to the release so please be on the lookout for that one. Today you can find me on my podcast Speedy & Friends 3 days a week & performing stand up comedy across the country. Tour dates and appearances are updated on my social media.

Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs or other resources you think our readers should check out?
I’m more of a motivational quote kinda guy. I read positive quotes every day. With so much negativity surrounding us, I make a conscious daily effort to insert twice as much positivity. I don’t sit on negativity long and I continue to move forward no matter what. I enjoy Joe Rogans podcast. I also enjoy the podcast Speedy & Friends which can be found on Patreon. I happen to be on the show & it is hilarious. It’s a comedy & we talk for 3-4hrs 3 days a week. Our guests are mostly comedians so it gives me a chance to work out new material and keep my timing sharpe for the stage.
