Daily Inspiration: Meet Zorine Truly

Today we’d like to introduce you to Zorine Truly.

Hi Zorine, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I started my creative journey right after High School, my brother inspired me to do spoken word poetry and it took me into writing, acting and other creative outlets. I came to LA for my dreams and they all are quickly becoming reality.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has not been a smooth road for me, I was raised in Memphis which was amazing for my creative self but growing up I dealt with a lot. My neighbor was rough but my mother made sure we had a safe space in our home. It’s like we didn’t know we were poor because we had family who picked up the slack. My community held space for me, and I’m extremely grateful. Even with the sudden passing of my Brother I was able to take that tragedy and use it as fuel for my dreams.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I would consider myself as a creative. I do just about everything, I write, I direct, I act, and I recently have started the creative process of curating an exhibit at Junior High LA. I believe I’m most notably known for my Hoochie History series on Tik Tok and being the founder of Hoochiecon. I’m extremely proud of how that series has developed into an exhibit highlighting the cultural impact of Black Women on popular culture and beauty. I am excited to see How HoochieCon expands and grows.

We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
I don’t think people realize how long I’ve been working on my brand and creative outlets. I’ve been actively trying to get a seat at the table for years!! I’m extremely sensitive and for a while, all the closed doors and no’s really got to me, it was only recently that I realized that if I like what I do and create what I enjoy that all that really matters. My people will find me!!
