Today we’d like to introduce you to Courtney Fletcher.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I began school at Pacific College of Oriental Medicine San Diego in winter of 2010. During my time there, I was able to do clinical rounds outside of school at the San Diego downtown free clinic and study abroad in ShenYang China. It was about half way through my education that I found myself drawn towards the Japanese style of meridian acupuncture. As a surfer and outdoor enthusiast, I naturally fell into the vein of sports medicine and also found myself fascinated with facial rejuvenation (a type of acupuncture that yields results similar to Botox but just with the use of acupuncture and Chinese herbs). After graduating in winter of 2014, I decided to open my own practice in my home town of Costa Mesa. It has been an incredible journey and huge learning experience in the process, but I can genuinely say that I love doing what I do!
Has it been a smooth road?
I wouldn’t call it smooth but luckily it hasn’t been rough either. I’d say my biggest struggle along the way so far has been figuring out the ins and outs of the insurance world. It’s a tricky game they play!
We’d love to hear more about your business.
I specialize in Japanese meridian style acupuncture. This type of acupuncture is gentler than the traditional Chinese style and will often use a lot of moxibustion (mugwort heat therapy) in addition to acupuncture. It also focuses a lot on pulse diagnostics and palpation of the meridians for point selection and diagnosis. I’ve applied this knowledge towards my specialties of sports medicine and cosmetic acupuncture.
I think what I’m most proud of as a company is my customer service. I do my best to make sure every person that floats (yes, floats) out of my office has a smile on their face and is feeling great.
I’d say what sets me apart from many other acupuncturists is the Japanese style and the cosmetic acupuncture. Neither are very well known and not taught in all schools.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
I think any city is a great one for an acupuncturist because everyone needs acupuncture!
