Life & Work with Meco Velez

Today we’d like to introduce you to Meco Velez.

Hi Meco, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I started off as a young girl with big dreams. I started singing in church when I was very small and knew that was my calling. Then I got into modeling because of a friend (Stacy) who was a model. I never thought I was good-looking enough to model but turns out I was a natural in front of the camera. I’ve always praised myself for having a good personality and people can notice that. That combined with being a natural in front of the camera allowed me to make a lot of connections.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It’s not always a smooth road. There are people who have doubted me, talked down on me and tried to discourage me. But I am a very strong resilient person. I knew/know what my purpose is and I will not give up until I’ve reached every dream I’ve imagined.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I and a singer and model. I do R&B, Pop with a dash of funk hip hop. Music is one of my forms of expression. Modeling is the other. I love to be able to tell a stay through an image. My most prouder accomplishment with my music would be putting out music for people to listen to and enjoy. I think when one of my songs “When you get mad” played on the radio was one of the biggest highlights of my life. For modeling, a big accomplishment for me was the first time I seen myself in a magazine. It was an amazing feeling. I feel like what sets me apart from others is I’m fearless and I have a story to tell.

Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
Growing up I was very outgoing and had a big personality. I would always want to put on a show for people and escape from my reality and live the one I created. I loved the outdoors and was such an adrenaline junkie.
