Meet Tierra Amira Jones

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tierra Amira Jones.

Hi Tierra Amira, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I was born on August 23rd in Washington, DC. Due to a lack of good public education, I left school in DC at the age of 11 to attend a junior boarding school in New York.  There flourished my love and skills in dance, music and acting. I then graduated to attend an all-girls boarding school and continued to further my progression while acting, dancing, and singing in HS productions such as West Side Story, Chicago, and Guy and Dolls. Since I attended an all-girls school, I sometimes played male as well as female roles in the production. Immediately after my college graduation I traveled, for the 2nd time, to the Cannes Film Festival and worked with several Entertainment companies.

During my time in Los Angeles, I have worked on the set of major television shows which were Shameless on Showtime, Westworld on HBO, and Insecure on HBO. I was a guest on the show “Out Loud With Claudia Jordan” on FoxSoul and featured as “One To Watch” in Medium and Vocal Media. As a model, I have been featured in Sky Magazine and West Hollywood Magazine while managing several social media campaigns for companies such as Reebok, TomboyX, and Hum Nutrition, Marriot Hotels, Stay Pineapple Hotels, and several beauty brands. DJing is also one of my greatest joys, with getting the opportunity to be a resident DJ for two shows that air on Dash Radio. I hosted my own morning radio show called “Music Xposed” on a digital platform known as Ethel’s Club.

Furthermore, I have a YouTube series called Industry Xposed, where I offer advice to aspiring industry creatives such as self-tape advice, money management, and even behind the scene of my Photoshoot as well as showcase the world through my eyes from my travel and lifestyle videos.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The road to accomplish your dreams will never be easy unless you are very lucky! However, I believe that the obstacles we incur do make us stronger. Furthermore, I believe that part of learning and gaining knowledge in any field comes with learning from your failures. As an actress, I have gone on probably hundreds of auditions and heard hundreds of No’s as well. As a model, I would have people tell me straight up “No” to my face. Instead of believing in all of the No’s and negativity that came across my comments sometimes; I chose to believe in me. I turned it all into fuel to keep me going because now I will prove you wrong. I believe in my passions, I believe in my talents and abilities and know that I am capable. It is the love I experience every time I am acting on set or DJing alongside other talented DJs that keeps me going. It’s the best feeling in the world. We should all chase what brings us joy!

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a multi-hyphenated creative. So I love to get my hands dirty in multiple aspects of the Entertainment Industry. I am an Actress, DJ, Dancer, and Model. Aside from my accomplishments, I am most proud of my perseverance. I have dreamed of moving to Los Angeles since I was a child. So sometimes I have to step back and realizing that I am already living the life I dreamed of when I was a little girl. I am proud of myself for moving across the country without my family, making a new life for myself, and pursuing my dreams every day. I think it is important for us to celebrate the small wins because those lead to those big moments!

What were you like growing up?
Growing up, I was a very energetic, outgoing, and smart kid. In school as a child, I would always get in trouble for talking to the other kids in class. I would finish the assigned work so fast that I would get bored and start talking to my classmates. With that being said, I was drawn towards the theater at a very young age. I started doing commercials when I was young and I continued to study acting up until High School where I performed in multiple theatre productions while on the varsity dance team. I had roles in the productions of Guys and Dolls, Chicago, The Jungle Book, and West Side Story. Furthermore, I started training in multiple dance styles such as Hip-Hop, Modern, Jazz, Tap, and Contemporary which lead me to be able to do it on a competitive level in High School. So, during my childhood I fell in love with the arts, I fell in love with performing and I fell in love with learning and improving my talents!
