Today we’d like to introduce you to Anouk Aumont.
Hi Anouk, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Tattooing allows me the freedom to offer my illustrations more permanent homes. For me, tattooing is a perfect marriage of mediums, It’s a creative discipline that is both collaborative and incredibly intimate. I have been tattooing full time for about 5 years in east Los Angeles, and have recently taken my practice to Ojai, CA.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Burning out has been a big lesson in this career! Tattooing is incredibly physical and it took me a long time to understand how much work I could take on.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m a multidisciplinary artist and Hand-poke Tattooer. I offer my flash designs once so each client gets a unique drawing, illustrations never get repeated!
Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
After a tattoo injury two years ago, I taught myself how to draw with my non-dominant hand. Since then, all my illustrations are done with my left hand and I tattoo with my right. I’ve continued the use of incorporating both hands in my work after learning about the connectivity between the use of each individual hand and the left and right brain hemisphere functions. Because my ability to work and make art is dependent on my hands, I feel at ease knowing I can continue my passion.
