Hidden Gems: Meet Precious Hicks of A Pocket of Sunshine

Today we’d like to introduce you to Precious Hicks.

Hi Precious, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I am an artist, mom, and domestic violence survivor. After years of trauma from childhood and an abusive relationship, I needed to make the decision to finally intentionally heal. During my healing journey, I found myself getting many inquiries about my methods; so much so, I created a text group and journal that turned into the now company. In my career, I am a mental health advocate and life coach, an herbalist, as well as a community builder. I now am in mentor groups for women in prison and have partnered with other organizations to bring wellness workshops to the community.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
It has been many struggles; however they all began and end with me. Especially around healing and evolving. Which I think is everyone’s biggest obstacle. Knowing and understanding when is it is time to move forward and how do you go about doing that. I’ve been through a lot of trauma as a child and a young adult even though I was climbing in my career there was a part of me that knew if I didn’t address the trauma, I would be in a loop of reliving it in some way or another.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
A Pocket of Sunshine is a holistic wellness company that assists groups of individuals on their self-care journey. I create workshops, ebooks and aromatherapy products that aid in self-love, self-care and productivity. We are creating a community of healing. Imagine a world where we share stories, experiences, and resources in order to collectively and individually heal, that is A Pocket of Sunshine.

Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
I think my need to learn is the best characteristic. I am continuously looking for new this to learn, whether it’s herbs, mental health, current events. I am always learning. I know some people pride themselves on being master teachers but I want to be a master student. I want to learn all I can learn and share it with my community not to teach but to continue to build my community up and also retain the information I am learning.
