Meet Alex Trejo

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alex Trejo.

Hi Alex, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I have always loved music growing up, and been really interested in mixing music together from a very young age. I am originally from LA, born at UCLA Hospital, and moved out to Thousand Oaks when I was about 10 but went back and forth between LA and TO but spent my middle school and most of high school in TO. I graduated from Westlake High School.

When I was about 12 or 13, my parents bought me my first little dj controller. From there I watched youtube videos and kind of messed with it to try and learn everything that I could. One thing that was unfortunate was that I never really had a DJ mentor or anything, or anyone to really teach me who was actually a DJ, but I did what I could and continued to learn as much as I could. I had spent years DJing in my room practicing all the time. I got paid for my first-ever gig when I was in 9th grade. From that moment on I DJed as many parties/events as I could throughout high school. I graduated high school in 2015 and I started DJing a lot of college parties in the San Fernando Valley. At that time I met a lot of different DJs and promoters and worked at a few different venues in the valley. In 2017 I left that area and took a small break from DJing, but in 2018 I started doing some local bars in the 805 (Ventura county) area.

From there I started to DJ a lot more often and also started to promote each event because I started to throw my own events. I got a lot more into promoting and just tried to grow in that and DJing. I did that up until the pandemic hit. During that, I tried to stay as busy as I could, but couldn’t really DJ that much, so I spent a lot of time working my regular day job. During that time I studied what bars/clubs/events were in my area that I could potentially DJ at. In late 2021 I started to get into some of those bars and clubs and DJ there. I also focused on DJing more weddings, quinceaneras, corporate events, fundraisers and more stuff within the community. Ever since then I have been working at new places and expanding and networking even more. I also host more of my own events now at a bunch of different places. In September of this year 2022, I actually built and finalized my event team. It is called Atre Promotions Team LLC (APT). Specializing in event production and promotions. Now I am currently working with new and old venues and creating my own events, also assisting others with their events.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I don’t think there is ever a smooth road in my opinion. Some of the struggles I faced in the beginning of my journey were people not taking me seriously and giving me the opportunities that I deserved because I was maybe too young. Another struggle can always be just making sure you’re networking with the proper people. It’s definitely good to network with everyone but there are certain people that you need to network with to achieve certain goals because in reality, we are all helping each other.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am DJ, Promoter, Business Owner, and Event Coordinator. I am most proud of all the places and venues I have DJed and also I am really most proud of all the events I have put together and thrown. What sets me apart from others I think is my willingness to grow and my passion to keep getting better. I have met a lot of people in this industry that think they know everything and think they are the best, which is all fine in my opinion as long as it does not hinder your growth and knowledge.

What are your plans for the future?
My plans for the future are to eventually grow the business that I started (my production and promotion team) and the business to be able to do multiple events in one night without me even being there. Another plan for the future is to just DJ as many places as I possibly can, more clubs in other areas, more weddings and community events, maybe even some big festivals if the opportunity ever arises.
