Check Out Azjah Kellum’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Azjah Kellum.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I started really doing music in high school but I took it seriously once my older brother went to jail and facing double digits in years. Music helped me decipher how I was feeling. I would send my music to my brother while he was in jail, and also had my dad managing me. I wanted to put on for my city and the area I grew up in, I wanted all my childhood friends to be proud of me. So I worked and worked now I’m in a position I use to dream of. Although there is a lot of work to be done, a whole lot

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has not been a smooth road. Like I’ve said before I wanted to do this for my hometown. The city of Compton supports me heavy, but the ones I grew up wit I feel like there is a distance a doubt. And then there’s the industry, I get a lot of cold shoulders here and there but I also get love from a few. Nothing in life that’s worth having is going to be easy so I just keep working until my respected by everyone.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
As an artist, I know what separates me is my voice and lyrics. I don’t think no female from my city is talking about the things I talk about. Even though I’m a female, I have a mindset of both genders which allows me to speak from both perspectives and I want to tell my story in my music. Talk about the doubters the betrayal the hurt the love and the road to riches.

What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
To be successful, you must always be humble to a certain extent. Be grateful, be mindful, be a bulldog and have crazy worth ethic.
