Check Out Nick Osin’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nick Osin.

Hi Nick, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My real name is Mykola Dolzhykov. I go by my artist name Nick Osin. I am 23 years old. I was born in Vinnytsia, Ukraine. I grew up with no parents, just my grandmother and my uncle who raised me up. My grandmother always took me to all the practices and let me discover myself and find my own path and my passion. I did all kinds of things, acrobatics, ice-skating, diving, and dancing, but the most consistent thing in my life has always been music. I had a vocal coach since I was six years old. I performed on every stage and festival in my city. Eventually, when I turned 15 years old, I was invited to participate in a singing TV show “Hochu K Meladze” in Moscow, Russia.

Round after round, I realized that I wanted more for myself and my life than living in Russia, sing a random contract and not be able to live my best life. It’s not about money and fame, to me it was always about being free and have an opportunity to make my own free choices and not be controlled by anyone’s standards. I voluntarily left the show, which caused a scandal. I did what I had to do. Right after that I spent 12 months learning English language intensively. At 16 years old, I became an exchange student and I left to America to discover my own path and way to a bigger and more successful life. I was fortunate to have amazing people along the way, like my host family Stacy and David, who gave me an amazing introduction to American culture and life. At 17 years old, I was able to rent my own place and get my own first car. After graduating a private High School, Evansville Day School in Indiana, I went to LA right away in June 2018.

Since then I have been chasing my dreams and building my life from ground up. I currently release my own music on every streaming platform and push myself as much as I can. Music has always been there for me and it’s the journey I’ll never trade for anything. I write my music based on my experiences and feelings and I’m happy to see that people can relate to it and appreciate it.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The hardest part for me was to adjust in the United States and assimilating with the people and the language. Los Angeles is a highly competitive place to be in, and finding your own niche is very important in order to stand out and develop your own brand. Despite all the pressure and insecurities that arise along the journey of self-discovery, I always remind myself that I am enough, and I try to compare myself less to others and just focus on growing my own brand.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a singer and songwriter from Ukraine. I write songs about my experiences in my feelings. I perform at festivals and events. I just got the headline Phoenix AZ Pride on the main stage, as well as Palm Springs pride. It was an unbelievable experience. I love performing more than anything.

How do you think about happiness?
I suppose the most important things that make me happy in life are my friends, my family, and a freedom to do anything I want with my life and build it exactly how I always imagined. I am very blessed and grateful to have all the opportunities that I have right now in my life. It has been a huge journey of getting here and it’s only the beginning.
