Today we’d like to introduce you to Nate LaPointe.
Hi Nate, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I grew up in Laramie, WY the son of an avid music family, one who owned a small used record store. Moved to SoCal in 1996 to study jazz guitar at the California Institute of the Arts. Stayed in the LA area, eventually playing with Cubensis, LA’s premiere Grateful Dead music experience. And also soul/r&b legend Bobby Womack.
In addition to playing shows, teaching, and recording, I also run a small dog food company called Zuri Food.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Not at all. Being broke while pursuing music is a tough road. Looking for a change in the couch cushions to eat dinner. Finally getting a good gig and then having a $1000 car repair. Gigs end, living off credit cards. Empty promises of fame and fortune from promoters and band leaders. Missed opportunities. It’s a long list.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Guitarist, vocalist, teacher, songwriter, recording artist, producer, dog food manufacturer.
I’ve performed with a wide variety of artists across many genres including Bobby Womack, Vince Welnick, Phil Lesh, and Felix Pastorius.
I specialize in improvised music.
How do you think about luck?
Luck is meeting the right people. Maintaining those relationships is key. Many people are missing the luck part. Many are missing the maintenance part. It’s a combination.
