Today we’d like to introduce you to Tanner Agpoon.
Hi Tanner, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I started rapping when I was 16, freestyling at parties and then eventually began writing and recording verses. I would just find Youtube beats and record over them. Around 18, I taught myself guitar and piano and started producing on my own.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
A lot of the struggles I faced were internal. Music has become this outlet for me, but when I moved out to Los Angeles and entered my 20s, I felt a lot more pressure to be this established act. I struggle a lot with the balance of being an artist and being a regular guy. I feel like music has become a big part of my personality and while I love the act of creating, I have found myself compromising my vision for algorithms-sake. Thankfully I have good people around me that have loved and supported me throughout it all. Most of the time I just need to get out of my head and I can easily realize it’s not that bad. Everything is good.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I make music! I produce, mix, master, and write all my songs myself in my bedroom. I’m most proud of my songs – just making them brings me so much joy. Also at the beginning of 2022, I started my clothing line, Pretty Boy, and hand-print all the clothes myself. I source the pieces in Los Angeles and then have a screen-printing machine in my dining room. Shoutout to my roommates for being okay with it.
What’s next?
I am releasing all the songs I made during my year long hiatus. I made so much music and am just ready for people to hear it. I want to work more on Pretty Boy too. Put more of my art into the world.
