Today we’d like to introduce you to Chris Scalco.
Chris, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I started playing piano at age five and have never really stopped making music since then. In middle school, I began writing raps and by high school, I was producing my own songs. By the end of college, I “discovered” my singing voice (meaning I finally found confidence in my ability) and decided to pursue my dream of being a recording artist. Since then, I’ve released over 20 singles plus a slew of features and songs I’ve produced for others. Additionally, I’ve been singing and playing professionally at a dueling piano bar and with several corporate bands for the past six years.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Hell no! But I wouldn’t trade any of it. The biggest struggle has been with self-belief. But the pursuit of this passion has forced me to choose to face so many limiting beliefs and insecurities, and I wouldn’t have built the confidence and peace that I now get to experience without first learning how to break out of the cocoon.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m a singer, songwriter and producer. What sets me apart is my unique perspective based on my upbringing and my experiences. My story is unique inherently. What sets my music apart is that it’s an honest reflection of who I am, where I’ve been and where I’m going, and it merges my many musical influences into a gumbo that only I could make. I’m best known for boy band-esque harmonies; groovy and detailed instrumentals; funky, highly swung drums; beatboxing; and honest, thought-provoking lyrics.
Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
I see artists only becoming more and more empowered. We’ve had all the tools for a while now to experience great success without the assistance of a major label, and it’s very inspiring to watch so many artists build lives that they’re excited about on their own terms. We’re building our teams with people we’ve known for many years, surrounding ourselves with love, and choosing what feels good to us. From a business standpoint, I’m not sure what’s to come. But creatively, I think we’re in a renaissance.
