Today we’d like to introduce you to Zaferia in Long beach’s Roundin 3rd Sports Bar and Grill.
So let’s start at the beginning – how’d you get into the restaurant business?
I was a general manager for Claim Jumper, yard House and Islands for over 20 years, and decided it was time to try and open my own business. My wife ( Karna ) and I love talking with our guests and providing great service to everyone who walks in our door. My best friend is an award winning executive chef in Colorado and helps me write a scratch kitchen menu that you don’t normally find in a sports bar.. My grandparents and my dad all owned their own businesses and I guess it runs in our family. We now own 2 bars one in Long Beach and one in Upland and our goal is to have the complete package that you find in any high end full service restaurant but in a sports bar setting.
What have been the biggest challenges you’ve faced over the years?
No!!! We made a ton of mistakes our first year and are constantly learning new laws and rules pertaining to our industry. We also basically sold all we owned and maxxed out our credit cards to make this first place a reality. During the first year and a half of opening, we both held down 2 other jobs each and did not take a salary from the bar to help insure our success.
What stands out about Roundin 3rd Sports Bar and Grill?
Hand crafted made from scratch recipes usually not found in ANY sports bars, along with our corporate backgrounds and demand for great service and atmosphere. We have 30 big screen tvs and 3 different cable/satellite services to get all sports channels.
