Daily Inspiration: Meet Iona Burciaga

Today we’d like to introduce you to Iona Burciaga.

Hi Iona, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
Lots of trial and error. I tried everything. Just to see what I love and what I was able to commit to consistently. Every hobby I wanted to do whether I succeeded at it or not I did. I mostly did it to challenge myself and see that I could make anything work. The result is finding what I could make work that I loved at the end of the day.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
No. Not at all. I suffered from a lot of imposter syndrome. I knew that I was capable of my dreams but I dealt with a lot of self-doubts. It was hard. There would be days I couldn’t show up for myself or what I enjoyed doing because of the way I couldn’t recognize myself.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m a multi-talented artist. If I have a dream or an idea I run with it. When I wanted to pursue photography, I did.

When I wanted to pursue modeling, I did. When I wanted to be a barista, I did. When I wanted to pursue skateboarding I did and still do that. When I wanted to build a brand I did and beginning a new thing now. But I’m most known for challenging myself and being diligent with all of my talents.

I even like mixing and making music here and then. I like everything that I do and I don’t like limiting myself to one thing as I am a person who needs a challenge and stimulation. There are some things that come naturally to me and some that don’t and often the ones that come most naturally to me I end up swapping for something more challenging.

What do you think about happiness?
Right now, I am really enjoying weight training. It’s weird. I never saw myself as a gym girl. I’ve always been athletic but never gym athletic. I used to play tennis, basketball, and water polo in high school. But gym? No sire.

I don’t know, it’s been optimal for maximizing my mind and mental health, and it’s helped me with structure in a lot of my creative endeavors. And overall I REALLY look forward to the gym every day. I often don’t want to leave. That and my Faith.
