Meet Laura Vorreyer

Today we’d like to introduce you to Laura Vorreyer. Them and their team share their story with us below:

Laura Vorreyer is a pet expert and author living her best life in Los Angeles. Laura moved to LA from Chicago to be a makeup artist but things didn’t go quite as expected when she realized her makeup gigs were few and far between. Laura is credited with “pioneering the dog walking industry” when she began walking dogs professionally to make ends meet. Laura quickly realized she was busier with the dogs and that she enjoyed spending time with her furry friends more than chasing down the occasional makeup job. Laura started her business, “Your Dogs Best Friend” in response to the growing need working pet parents had to take care of their pets when they are away from home. We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Laura left her dream of being a successful makeup artist behind in order to pursue dog walking professionally. Initially, she was conflicted by this decision because it meant giving up on her original career which had brought her out West; however after working with countless animals and receiving their unconditional love (and affection) Laura soon realized how much value there is in caring for other people’s pets. The road to entrepreneurship wasn’t always smooth and Laura faced many challenges including finding equally committed help that shared her passion and professionalism. Laura continues to walk and care for pets but lately her main focus has been her writing career and bringing an adaptation of her book, “The Pet Sitter’s Tale” to the small screen.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Laura realized her experiences as a pet professional would be of interest to others pursuing careers in the animal care business and she wrote a book. Part memoir and part how-to, “The Pet Sitter’s Tale” is a collection of Laura’s most outlandish and poignant experiences with pets and their people-and as a female entrepreneur. Laura is especially proud of her co-host position in the popular monthly Podcast “All Things Pet.” As a pet expert and pet lover herself, Laura’s thrilled to share her advice and experiences with other pet lovers and owners. Laura continues to work tirelessly as an animal advocate and is passionate about rescue animals. Laura and her family adopted a Pit Bull named Daisy during the pandemic and Laura works hard to ensure that harmful stereotypes against the breed are dispelled.

Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
The pandemic has given me a new lease on life. I’ve been able to focus more time towards my writing and completed several writing for television courses that will help me sell my wags-to riches story. This series is based off my adventure in LA; becoming a professional dog walker and navigating the needs of demanding celebrity (and even non-celebrity) clients. With funny antics from humans along with their furry companions; there are plenty of scenes guaranteed not only make your heart sing–but maybe even laugh out loud too! I am excited about collaborating creatively and to see my vision come to life.
