Today we’d like to introduce you to Boo Quincy.
Hi Boo, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I’m a Thai-American Music Producer/Youtuber Living in LA!
I started a Youtube channel named “Boo Quincy” in 2019.
My goal is to learn music production for myself and share it to those who interested in the same topic in Thai Language.
In 2019, there were a lot of music production tutorial on Youtube but they are all in English. There were none or very few in Thai. So I questioned myself “Why is that?” and “Why didn’t no one start it already?”. So I decided to start it myself.
It started as a hobby but the channel has been growing bigger and bigger.
There were not too many people do the same thing as I do: share what I have learnt about music production over the years for free.
Therefore, my name started to be known by most Thai music producers, Beat Makers, and even the Thai Music Labels.
One day I decided to DM a well-known independent artist on the Facebook named “Ponchet”.
I’m actually a big fan of his work already. Turns out, he is one of my students on Youtube!
So we do the studio session online since the artist living in Thailand and I live in LA. Time difference is also a problem but nothing really can stop us from making something great. So we finished the song called “Candy”.
It was my first time to launch a song with Official MV and the song was a success! The artist “Ponchet” decided to put name at the end of the music video (produced by Boo Quincy). He said, “I want everyone to see what I see in you”.
From that day, top music labels reach out to me. Another well-known artist also DMs. My YouTube channel also growing in much faster rate until this day.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Yes. Since the artist and me are not living in the same Country, finishing the song online can be hard.
the communication is not the same as face-to-face studio session. I also have to wake up really early to work with the
artist in Thailand (which is at night).
Another challenge I’m also currently struggling with right now is I find it hard to turn a hobby into business.
Music Business is something I find myself really not enjoyable. I might have to hire a manager or someone to take care
of this for me soon. That way I can just focus on my work and less headache on the tricky part of the business too.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am/known as a Music Producer/Youtuber/Music Educator
Specialize in teaching Music software(DAW) /Plugins(VST) and Audio Engineering
My most proud work https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PL0IMXHjmCQkcZlzhjzIo9aWRN66t0gqaT
(Here is the playlist, All music is done by me : D)
My music have a big influence from what I grew up listening to. Soul, R&B, Hiphop and also K-pop, K-indie.
So it sounds like an indie K-pop song with the Thai lyrics which set me apart from other original Thai music.
Can you share something surprising about yourself?
I actually have another work!
I also work at The Farmer’s Market in LA selling organic fruits there!
It is a fun job and It keeps me from sitting in front of a computer for too long. Also since I am a very introverted person, this job kind of forces me to step out of my comfort zone and build confident in me to communicate more with people I do not know.
I just love everything I do!
