Rising Stars: Meet Isabella Piña

Today we’d like to introduce you to Isabella Piña.

Isabella, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My story begins with my abuela Enos V. She took care of me when I was a child and would bring me along with her to sell at swap meets. I grew up in Boyle Heights and I’m proud to have grown up in such a vibrant city. Today, here I am at 26 years old selling at pop-ups with my abuelita again but this time it’s my business named Eastside Proyecto. EP is a design studio I create concrete goods to Interior Design. I hand-make objects for everyday use and home décor.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has been a learning and growing process. I love working on my passions but I don’t always have the answers so it can be difficult at times.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I make concrete home objects. My items are made with cement and hemp. I specialize all aspects of design making, I am known for making functional items that you can bring into your home. I am most proud of my craft and it’s what sets me apart. My process is what makes these items unique.

If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
Characteristics that I feel are most important is to always approach any situation with an open mind and to always have a genuine eagerness to learn something new.
