Daily Inspiration: Meet J.R. King

Today we’d like to introduce you to J.R. King.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My real name is Ian Saunders. I go by J.R KING now. I was born in South Florida went to High School and graduated class president. I was raised by my Grandmother and Greatgrandmother and my Mother with help from my dad. I always had a passion for music. I auditioned for American Idol in 2016, I was Aladdin in the play in children’s theatre. Performed at the Dade County Youth Fair and just was every company in South Florida favorite young artist. I moved to LA with $800 knowing nobody the moment I got off exit someone wrecked my car before I can even get to get to the place I was staying. I sacrificed so much by choice. I moved in a home company called upstart and stayed in a pod with seven other people in total in one house, it was 40-60 of us. I ended up working hard getting enough money to get my first studio and then landed assistant nursing and then started making a lot more got a new car and moved to a one bedroom in downtown LA.

Fast-forwarding LA made me a man being out there on my own. I went live with Chloe And Halle and won the talent show singing for them and they sent me a gift package it was a great moment. Everyone that knows me knows I’m the biggest Jay Z and Beyonce fan so Jay Z started a new school. I auditioned and got in. I left and currently in New York, I’m in LA still every other week because LA is my new home I want to live at forever. I met my manager Christle at the school she knew as soon as she heard what I was working on in LA she wanted to manage and she was amazing so we made it happen. We just went to the Grammys sat next to Justin Beiber and his wife and met Doja Cat, Sza, Saweetie, Billie Ellish my life is about to take off. I attended Cardi and Offset private party in LA in December. I recently released my debut EP on April 28 call “Birth of a King” which was recorded at the Roc Nation School of Sports and Entertainment. It is available on all platforms. Below are the links:

This project will break me in the industry, I strongly believe that. I’ve met so many celebrities at such a young age Tamar Braxton, Dj Khaled 2 times, Miguel, Kirk Franklin, Dwayne Wayde and so many more. LIFE IS A DREAM

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
No, not at all the year I graduated from Nova High my Great Grandmother passed. And when I got to LA, I didn’t know anyone. I built everything from scratch. I was broke trying to make money and do music at the same time. Did not have money for studio time and was struggling. Then got into a toxic relationship where I started to lose myself trying to make someone else to feel good. Trying to juggle music but trying to survive thousands of miles from home alone is a big struggle. I joined the church ONELA and met a good family.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m J.R KING. I sing Act and Rap. I do it all!!!!!! This is a talent anything would be stupid to sleep on my video went viral for Cardi B putting whip cream shots in my mouth. I’m most proud of the progress I made and how I pushed through all this and now walking into the door. What sets me apart is I’m authentic and I don’t follow I create.

We’re always looking for the lessons that can be learned in any situation, including tragic ones like the Covid-19 crisis. Are there any lessons you’ve learned that you can share?
Yes, that the grind don’t stop the hustle has to keep going and you have to stay motivated. And that even when the world stops your still getting older.
