Today we’d like to introduce you to Tiffany Filimon.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I grew up in my families salon my entire life in Michigan (which is where I was born & raised) all the women in my family are in the industry. I was there every week, I’d ask to do everyone’s makeup that came in at a young age. So many pictures at 12 and up doing makeup on ladies that came in the salon. I was the little girl bringing her plastic makeup box to recess. I started doing makeup professionally at the age of 18, and I worked in a boutique with Too faced products at their counter, Dior, shadowed/assisted two artists and was on Chanel Mollelos bridal team. I’m now running my own business doing makeup full time for a little over two years now. And am so so grateful for it!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Absolutely has not been a smooth ride, but isn’t that the journey we all have to take to learn & get where we want to be? I’ve had to work office jobs on the side of doing makeup for years just to be able to pay my bills. Live in my car, empty apartment, I’ve been through it to try and just be in life where I’ve gotten so far. Makeup has always had to be a side hustle for me until these last few years. Buying products for my kit was very hard for me. And I have applied for several agencies and been told that I need to make my portfolio more versatile. I have worked on that very hard for the last year and still working on applying again soon. I know throughout the years as an artist, I will have plenty of struggles and hurdles along the way. I always tell people this career path isn’t for the weak. I had to learn so much to this point & it’s a forever learning career.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a makeup artist who focuses on providing a high-end luxury service, using the finest products to produce the best results. I will work closely with you to curate a personalized look tailored to your aesthetic. No matter what your desired style maybe, I will work with you to help make it a reality.
Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
Practice practice practice! Get models, friends or family members to let you practice on. All skin tones and types. And just know professionalism & reliability will get you where you want to be. Clients are your biggest referral source, so provide the best you can & more will flow in. The best advice I was given was to do staged shoots, that way you can create what you feel best represents you & your style. That will attract who you want as your clientele base. And never stop learning!
