Today we’d like to introduce you to Deja Marie.
Hi Deja, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Well, my name is Daesha Jackson but I go by Deja Marie. I was born and raised in Santa Barbara, CA. As a child, I was obsessed with sports… mainly basketball. I dreamt of going to the WNBA, but that was shot down by my many injuries and loss of interest in the sport by the time I was 16. I did my first photoshoot with a friend of mine at 17 years old. It was a lingerie shoot and I had no idea what to expect. The results were AMAZING and that’s what sparked my love and passion for modeling. I created a Model Mayhem and was taking the train back and forth from SB to LA whenever I didn’t have to work. At the time, I was so excited to be creating and recognizing my beauty for what it was/is. As the years passed, I moved to LA in 2018 and my career really took off. I was constantly getting booked, meeting amazing people on set, and networking like no other. This was probably the best thing I could’ve ever done for my career. Ever since then, it’s been non-stop work and it’s only getting bigger and better.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The journey hasn’t been easy at all. I’ve dealt with colorism, sexism, and even sexual violation in this industry. It’s been difficult being a dark-skinned, natural, basically bald woman working in these different environments. Some people embrace it and others are just like wtf? Lol. Because I’m a confident, strong woman, it comes off as intimidating to a lot of people. I don’t let it affect me, but I do make sure to be mindful of my environment.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a model, video vixen, and content creator. I specialize in lingerie shoots, lifestyle, and implied/nude work. I am known for my natural look and style. I am not afraid to go outside of the box and try new things. I am most proud of my progress and resilience. No matter how many obstacles I’ve faced, how many times I’ve wanted to give up, I still kept going and pushed myself to be the best that I could in anything that I did. Despite my battles with depression, I never let it take me away from what I love the most.
Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
My open-mindedness and fearlessness. I am willing to do almost anything to make a production successful and produce the best results for everyone. I’m never afraid to be myself nor put myself out there to make things work.
