Today we’d like to introduce you to Mannie.
Mannie, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I’ve been singing for a very long time. From growing up singing in the church to writing my first songs and making my first Youtube videos, I’ve always known I wanted to use my gift. Around the age of 11, I participated in a singing competition in my city and didn’t make it through the second round. I was devastated and told myself I’d never sing again.
After pushing through my dramatic 11-year old thoughts, I started to sing again at the age of sixteen and really tried to improve on my technique and vocal presence. Ever since then, I’ve been determined to create songs that tell stories through the emotion of my lyrics and the power of my voice.
In early 2021, I was approached by Nycesound production to become a part of their artist roster. I had already been recording my own music, but this opportunity was something I knew could take me to the next level. I agreed to be a part of the team, and the grind hasn’t stopped since!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has definitely not been a smooth road. There have been a lot of barriers, be it physical, mental or emotional, that have been roadblocks for me as an artist. Not having people take you seriously or having people tell you they think you’re not ready for certain journeys can hurt your spirit and knock your pride, but I think it’s important to not let those things hinder you and your dreams. Always pushing through rejection is what got me here today, and I’m not even halfway there.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m an R&B singer from Toronto, Canada, and I want to show the world how much talent there is in Canada. I’m most proud of my debut single, called Do For Love, which I released November 1st, 2021. It’s been one of my dreams to release music, so the fact that I’ve been able to do that and have such a positive reaction to it is my pride and joy.
I think my unique vocal tone is what sets me apart from others. Being described as warm, husky, and mellifluous, I think my voice tends to stand out, and people can pick out my tone in any song that I put vocals on.
Any big plans?
My plans for the future include creating and releasing a project that I am extremely proud of and being able to perform the songs I wrote on stages anywhere I can, big or small.
I hope more people can hear my voice and the things I have to say through my music.
