Today we’d like to introduce you to Brezzy Byrd.
Hi Brezzy, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I started on Snapchat where I grew a following & I was basically famous for “nothing.” Then I made a TikTok account when it first launched & gained 850K followers until my account was banned. Just made a new account & gained 50K+ followers in a week. I started as an extra on the show Empire where I eventually booked my first principal role. I signed to an agency where the next day I booked my first commercial. Then I booked a Netflix movie called “Beats”, The Chi & Chicago PD.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
My struggles have been Social Media wise being censored on TikTok & other platforms where my videos would go viral then get deleted. Tiktok banning my videos then my account because their report system is automated & can’t actually talk to a real person for support to fix the problem. Acting-wise I just don’t have the support system I wish I had & I’m doing it all by myself. It’s hard to have ambition & drive when no one believes in you.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I got big on Snapchat for creating a “glitch” to gain followers then my followers just wanted to know more about me & my life so I stopped posting the glitch & just more of me. On TikTok I got big for many reason ally of random videos I made went viral but I saw success in videos about Chicago & the neighborhood I live in. Chicago culture runs the world & everyone who isn’t from here is trying to get in while the ones here are just trying to make it out. I’m proud of the bit of success I have gained from just doing it all myself and not really having a support system.
Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
Don’t be scared to ask. If you want something you never had, you gotta do something you never did. Take the risk. The thing that has worked for me is not caring what other people think about what I’m doing & do it for myself & not other people.
