Today we’d like to introduce you to Zavier.
Hi Zavier, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I’m a singer, rapper, and a producer from The Wav Godz, with fellow producers Mr. Wilson on the Beat and Casio. I started producing when I was 18 years old. Thats when I got my first Mac Book Pro and my first MIDI keyboard. Before I started producing, I had already been playing piano since I was 13 and guitar since I was about 16. The crazy part is, I learned to play piano from a dream. My mom walked into the living room and I was playing “Fur Elise” by Beethoven. After that, I started teaching myself to play songs by ear and going on Youtube tutorials. I’ve been playing piano at my church since then, where my grandfather is the pastor. I grew up in church and I’ve spent most of my life there. I even used to sing in the children’s choir when I was a kid.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The road to get to where I’m at was a full on rollercoaster. It’s been full of ups and downs. I’ve dealt with a lot of things that were meant to break me, all the way from “big time” people selling lies to people trying to steal my music. I even lost all of my music at one point. But regardless of the struggles that I’ve gone through, my faith in God and believing in myself is what’s keeping me going. Now I have credits with artists like Joe Moses, Compton Av, Kap G, and a couple of other artists. I also co-produced “U My Bae” by Aqu@riu$ with Mr. Wilson which hit Top 40 on the Billboard Radio Charts. The remix just recently dropped with Fatman Scoop as the feature.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
When it comes to my music, I put a lot of myself into every track. I have a single called “Picture Perfect” that shows exactly that as well as my versatility when it comes to rapping and singing. Every single word in this song is based off true emotion. It may sound cheesy but music is my therapy. I make music that I want people to be able to connect to. In my songs, I tell a lot of my own story with my own personal feelings. I just want the people who connect to my music to know that they aren’t alone. I think that’s what sets me apart from others. Also, my ability to do whatever sound I feel like doing. I have tracks that have a west coast feeling to them but I also have R&B and other genres in my vault. I’ve spent years working on my craft and just experimenting with different things, as far as my sound goes, and I’ve been able to keep adding to my skillset.
We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
Something that most people might not know about me is that I learned how to play piano from a dream. That’s also how I learned how to ride a bike when I was a kid. My grandfather is also a pastor as well as my dad. Also, my mom is the reason music plays such a huge part in my life. She used to perform and headline her own concerts where people were showing up and buying her CDs and merchandise. Seeing my mom perform always amazed me so it’s just great to be doing something that’s been passed down to me from her.
