Today we’d like to introduce you to Notion and Company: Happy I’m Sad. Them and their team share their story with us below:
Happy I’m Sad was founded by Notion (Levi Baglino) and Bennett Barbosa who are both originally from Utah. With Bennett Barbosa originated from a film background and Notion being a musician the two had combined their passions in music video production and direction. Ultimately this is what led to the birth of the company Happy I’m Sad.
The story of this company starts with inspiration from brands and artists such as Lyrical Lemonade, Mac Miller, and Phora’s Yourz Truly.
When we first launched the company nothing really worked at first. We weren’t selling clothes or landing productions either. I think this is how most companies start. We ended up sticking it out through the first year then we finally caught a break and landed a few videos which eventually kind of just had a snowball effect.
Expanding into the clothing side of the industry is something that we did right out of the gate when starting the company. Fashion, Music, and Film are all their own industries but at the same time share strong ties to each other. Which is why we wanted this company to be more than just a production company, rather we look at ourselves as a brand.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I always liked that Elon musk interview where he talks about having a company is like having a child. I find this very true especially with companies that become successful. We really love what we do but it takes a lot to create a company that becomes noticed and respected, especially in this industry. Through all the highs and the lows the best part for me is looking back on everything we made. As a creative and working in a creative field the videos and music that you’re a part of hold sentimental value. From my own music to the videos we have created, each piece of content has a story that is unique to me personally. When I look back on the project that I’ve been working on for the past year and a half, “Love me, I Love You”. I experience the memories of creating the project, the people I meant, and the places I now cherish. Enjoying creative works that I am a part of is refreshing.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
