Daily Inspiration: Meet Cosmo Scharf

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cosmo Scharf.

Hi Cosmo, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I’ve been obsessed with technology, video games, computers, and the future since I was a kid. I heard about YouTube in 2007 and got interested in filmmaking, chasing the dream of making a viral video. From there, I studied film production and entrepreneurship at USC. I left school to focus on two different startups I co-founded: VRLA and Mindshow. VRLA was a VR meetup we grew into the world’s largest immersive technology expo. Mindshow is a VC-backed VR animation startup that lets people create 3D animation by puppeteering virtual characters with their body and voice. I currently focus on product design, 3D illustration, and web3. I’m most passionate about the intersection of technology, consciousness, and personal transformation.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
There have been many challenges along the way. Raising money for Mindshow was a year of hard work: building our product, clarifying the vision, meeting investors, refining our story, etc. Once we raised our first major round, I found it very difficult to balance my time between both VRLA and Mindshow. I decided to focus on Mindshow at the expense of VRLA. Despite the overwhelming success of VRLA, we ultimately chose to stop the event because my perspective on VR shifted. This was a disappointing outcome, but the right decision in the long run.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m most proud of creating VRLA and Mindshow because they are two cutting-edge projects I helped create from scratch. As a Product Designer and 3D Illustrator, my unique focus is at the intersection of technology and spirituality, looking at how we can create apps and experiences that evolve consciousness. I’m particularly interested in biohacking, next-gen health & wellness, NFTs, and 3D tools.
