Life & Work with Chloè Duplessis

Today we’d like to introduce you to Chloè Duplessis.

Chloè, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My story begins in the American South. I was born and raised in North Louisiana, and attended college in South Louisiana.

I come from a long line of folks that believed that faith, hard work and community were invaluable tools when faced with oppression, bias and adversity.

As a legally blind artist and culture bearer, I create images that elevate the forgotten and illuminate the unknown.

In doing so, I’m working to erode the social constructs that oppress people of color and those navigating disability by creating art that centers history and healing.

I present work annually and offer talks on history, art and equity. I’ve also traveled to 9 countries and 21 states in support of my work.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Ha!

Let’s see…I’m a legally-blind

Black woman living in the United States post-2020.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am an artist, a speaker and culture bearer.

I own Duplessis Art, an arts and cultural consultancy based in Denver, Colorado.

I travel to five (5) cities each year to show my work, offer artist talks or serve as an Artist – in – Residence. I also partner with businesses, nonprofits and municipalities to build the cultural capacity through the arts. To do so, we collaborate to create arts programs and inclusive, accessible public art exhibitions informed by the contributions of real people/employees/citizens.

I am married to my best friend, and we have a daughter, Zoe.

She is my greatest contribution and my biggest source of inspiration. I am working to create a visual record for her so that she will know how her mother saw the world…and recognize the lasting impact and transformational power of living with intention, leaning into one’s faith, and showing up each day like you owe the ancestors….because you do.

How do you define success?
I define success as having the ability to live, thrive and create art that elevates the power of alignment,  access, and ccessibility.
