Today we’d like to introduce you to Sam Cahill.
Sam, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I started with photo and video when I was in 8th grade. Growing up creating skateboard videos of my friends and I in the streets of Everett, WA. I took interest to it after an injury to my leg (torn achilles) that put me out of doing anything semi-athletic for two years. I took classes throughout High School and went on to study film in college at the University of Colorado… for a whopping nine months before I dropped out. I toured and lived with an artist for a year after that where I worked strongly in the music space and created ads with Lyft, Leo Burnett and Timberland as my first commercial videos I was proud of. I began to travel to international destinations such as Bali, Philippines, Cuba and more: Producing travel films and photos with my friends all while working with brands, influencers and leading hotels and private villas.
After a few months of creating videos and showing the world my photography through social media, I found myself handling commercial projects, campaigns and finally a “real job” at an ad agency Times 10 in Burbank, CA where I worked for a year. Led by a good friend and role model of mine, Ben Ricciardi; I was put at the level to work with the likes of Adidas, The NBA, and top athlete James Harden branding his new shoe with Adidas.
Where I’m at now – I now create video/photo for Machine Gun Kelly nearly every day of the week. I have created and currently run an agency myself, Bottom Card. I’ve created a dual-sided agency where we handle all video and photo production for Television, Music Videos, Live Events, Commercials and more. With our projects, we back our clients with our power in the social space utilizing influencers with branding and strategy on social platforms, bringing eyes to the art.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
My path has definitely been bumpy and rough in stages – But I almost like to treat what I do like it’s a sport. Without practice and time put into it, it won’t work. Your coach may get hard on you sometimes and push you to the point where you have reached failure – but you have to get back up and keep going. When I get back up and keep pushing, I find that later I am always more satisfied that I pushed through rather than given up.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Bottom Card?
