Rising Stars: Meet Isaiah Joseph

Today we’d like to introduce you to Isaiah Joseph.

Hi Isaiah, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Born in Houston, Texas, I started behind the camera. My first music video was Laundry Mat by Nivea featuring my cousins. From there, I dabbled with the camera and my senior year in high school, I directed a music video for Knuck If You Buck. As soon as I sat down to edit, I remember synching the audio with our lips in .001 seconds. That’s when I knew I had a love for filmmaking and editing in total. Fast forward to the future, I graduated from film school and moved to New York which is where I got in front of the camera with modeling. After NY spit me out, I of course ended up with a job as a personal assistant. Makes a lot of sense, right? I moved to LA with this new job, working for Amber Rose. During that time, I grew and realized what I truly wanted. To be the creative, I started as. I’ve always had a great sense of humor and loved making people laugh. That’s my purpose. To use my creative abilities to bring joy and laughter. While in LA, I took up some acting classes which led me to a stand-up class. Now you can catch some of my sets on my social media as well at places like Flappers, The Federal, Ice House, Hollywood Comedy, Netflix, HBO (soon). Currently, I’m writing any films that come to mind as well as my very own TV show. I have arrived. I also have a merchandise line called JoBoy. I launched this business in 2016 and have been going ever since. My most popular item is the “Cool Shit” T-shirt.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has been pretty smooth because I’ve always had the gut feeling that I’m good. No matter where I am, I’m good. Being a personal assistant for the last six years taught me a lot about being selfless but also about being selfish. Humans have dreams and you have to be a bit selfish to focus on your dreams and believe in yourself. I got very comfortable with my assistant gig, although it would never lead me where I’m actually going in life. Letting go of that comfortability and quitting this year wasn’t a smooth choice because I didn’t plan. I just got to my wits end and had to dip in order to be happy. Always have a plan people. This makes things much smoother.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I write, edit and film. I am a standup comedian and actor as well. I’m most proud of being a writer. My brain’s material is endless and I never run out of ideas. Writing fuels my comedy, my editing and especially my acting. I love being a creative person and bringing new ideas to this earth. What sets me apart is my true essence. I’m kind and dark.

What do you like and dislike about the city?
I like Los Angeles for the opportunity it brings me. The weather is mostly tolerable. I dislike the pollen going 24/7 365.
