Inspiring Conversations with Alana Scott of Kinkz Hair Products

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alana Scott.

Hi Alana, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Kinkz started out with a hair tie that’s genius in its simplicity. I wanted to create a hair tie that would allow curly-haired women to experiment with a variety of styles without having to worry about damaging their hair. I instantly fell in love with my creation, and so did all of my friends and colleagues who tried the hair ties!

From there, I knew that it was time to share my creations with all the other natural-haired ladies out there. Kinkz is more than a business to me: It’s a passion project. I’m so thankful for the opportunity to encourage more women to embrace their natural tresses. In fact, even the name of the brand is a nod to the beauty of natural hair—I chose the name Kinkz to celebrate my kinky, coily hair and to remind other women to do the same.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
The beginning of Kinkz was definitely a rough start due to COVID-19. We started in the midst of Covid which caused our inventory to get stuck at customs for five months. This held up all of our sales, campaigns, and marketing efforts. However, during the process we used it as an opportunity to learn and build our brand awareness!

Kinkz Hair Products specializes in styling products for women with curly kinky hair. We are known for our number one selling product, our Kinkz hair ties, which is a product for women to use to style their hair without causing damage! We have seen many different products used in the past that have caused snags in hair or headaches or tension and we used a special technique to create these hair ties to avoid all of those things! We are so proud of the amount of lives that we have changed with our products and the stories that we receive daily from women from all backgrounds who use our products in their day-to-day lives!

What matters most to you? Why?
My greatest aspiration is to make women feel beautiful with their natural tresses. In society today, we are told that people with certain hair types or certain looks are beautiful, and my job is to make every woman feel beautiful in their natural skin!
