Conversations with Christopher Watkins

Today we’d like to introduce you to Christopher Watkins.

Hi Christopher, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
After I got out of the military, I moved to San Diego, California, where my older brother lived. I started attending a community college to take up some film classes for two years. I fell in love with film so I applied to The Los Angeles Film school after I was done with community college. And I made that big jump to move Los Angeles; it was very nerve-racking at first cause I didn’t know anything about LA or anybody but I knew that was where I wanted to be and had to be.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
There’s always challenges along the way, such as thinking you’re not good enough, can I really make it in this industry? But I always kept the faith if God brought me this far, then he’ll take me all the way.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m a director/cinematographer. I love telling great stories with my work. I’m very visual so I love great aesthetics. I recently submitted one of my short film in some film festivals and so far I’ve won two of them so I’m very proud about that. It definitely has given me a confidence boost. I say I’m very passionate when it comes to making a piece of art.

Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
Be you, be confident in your abilities, and stay hungry. Always willing to learn as well.
