Today we’d like to introduce you to Kim Wallace.
Hi Kim, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I am a singer/ songwriter and VoiceOver actress located in Downtown Los Angeles. I’ve always been involved in music. I grew up in the church and learned about singing and melody in church choir as a child; that translated to mainstream music as I got older. I loved how music made me feel and I knew I wanted to be involved in the industry as an adult. I got my degree in Musical Theater from Suffolk University and moved to LA to pursue acting and music. Through personal exploration, trial and error and a really wonderful support system I figured out songwriting and releasing my own music was my true passion. However, I didn’t want to abandon my acting side and was able to translate that into VoiceOver work which has been a lot of fun!
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Absolutely NOT! Haha, There has been many ups and downs over the years. Life always throws you curveballs and you have to just ride the wave because there’s always blessings on the other side. When I first moved, I had no idea where to begin. I didn’t know how to produce music or how to go about finding representation. It was a crazy transition period shaking off that imposture syndrome that a lot of people feel moving to such a talented city. A lot of my struggles were personal. I had to learn how to rewire my own brain and treat myself with the support, confidence and love that my friends and family gave me. After that, everything started to fall into place. It’s always a work in progress (life) as my step-mom would say, but once you truly believe in yourself, there’s no stopping you!
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a singer/songwriter and VoiceOver actress. I write mainly for my own artist project but have recently started to write songs for pitch. I’m known for my features with DJ Skellibeatz. Both songs can be found on Spotify. As for VoiceOver, you can hear my voice on commercials with Milk Bar, Dunn Edwards Paint and Five Star Notebooks. I am most proud to have music finally released and available for people to listen to on all streaming platforms. I wrote in my room or in sessions for a few years before finally having the confidence to release. I would say what sets me apart is that I write from a very genuine place. My music can have a somewhat anthemic feel, almost sounding like worship music but is still pop, relatable and mainstream. I wanted to blend the roots of my faith upbringing with the pop/R&B music I listen to now.
Can you share something surprising about yourself?
That I can crochet! During the quarantine, I used that time to start making my own tops and little gifts for friends and family. I even started selling some pieces!
