Conversations with Terence “Benny” Christopher

Today we’d like to introduce you to Terence “Benny” Christopher.

Terence “Benny” Christopher born in the bay and raised in L.A. growing up, he always had an affinity to the arts whether its film, music, paintings or architecture.

Working as a store manager for a men’s clothing store, he discovered his love for men’s fashion. Subsequently, he dabbled in styling. His work can be found on some of the industries top musicians, actors and athletes.

One day a light bulb went of in his head (pun intended) after running out of unique garment options to dress his clients in, he says “I’m going to start a clothing line”.

A clothing line for people who don’t want to be extra flashy but still want to look well put together. ” I want my garments to make people do a double-take, like blend in but stand out at the same time, something Subtle and something Fresh”. At that moment that was the birth of Subtle Fresh.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Definitely not a smooth road. Being a one man show can be extremely challenging, I have to be creative director, salesman, graphic designer, quality control and fulfillment center all at the same time. Getting into an industry that’s extremely oversaturated, you would want to find something about you and your brand that would make you stand out. I didn’t take that route, I’ve been authentically me.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m a stylist at heart, so I love the positive reaction I get from people when they let me dress them. Now being a clothing designer, I get to dress a whole lot of people at the same time which truly brings me joy. I specialize in the art of blending in but standing out at the same time, my favorite oxymoron. I’m most proud of the fact that I actually took a dream of having a clothing line and brought it to life. I think what sets me apart from others is I don’t follow trends or fads; I’m authentically me and my followers appreciate that.
