Conversations with Mz. Juicy Jones

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mz. Juicy Jones.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I started in burlesque about 2 years ago. My band had broken up sometime before and I was looking for another creative outlet. I’m super adventurous, but since I was an exotic dancer for 15 years earlier in my life, I thought burlesque might be an option where I would feel safe but still able to be challenged on personal and creative levels.

I had always had the ability to reinvent myself, but to do that again at almost 50 was an interesting journey of self-awareness and confidence building. Some call it a midlife crisis. I just call it another chapter.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I’ve been on my own pretty much since I was 14, so my life has been very…colorful. There were plenty of struggles as a homeless teen, but I think that experience gave me the tenacity to not let anything get in the way of I really want to do something. I’ve also been a sex worker in different phases over the years and that for so teaches you a lot, some good lessons, some bad. There were a lot of survival strategies that served me well as protection when I was younger, but I had to reprogram myself basically to learn how to be vulnerable and open again. That was probably my biggest struggle. Letting go of strategies that no longer served me.

Burlesque is much more vulnerable to me than exotic dancing was, and I feel I really needed to grow up a bit before diving into it. When I was younger, I was way too self conscious.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m a holistic massage therapist, Neo-Tantric Guide and Intimacy Coach. However, I had to shut my practice down March of 2020. Since I am not working, I am focusing my attention on virtual burlesque shows and making pasties and costumes for the community. While I do not consider burlesque my “work,” my costuming venture is becoming a new business. Now that things are opening back up, I do look forward to getting back on the live stage!

I am proud of being an example that aging should never stop you from trying new things, especially in the sensual or erotic arts. I am a mature, full-bodied (Juicy) burlesque performer. I am not a character. Everything I portray as Juicy is just me, for real. I am unashamed. I am unapologetic in how I express my sexuality and how I show my body. I don’t embarrass easily. I would like to focus on turning age and beauty standards on their ass.

What matters most to you? Why?
Independence and freedom combined with my marriage and son. I like to be completely unteathered as far as how I live my life. I’m an adventurer and need to be exploring new things. Luckily, my husband is the same way so we are able to give each other the freedom to do so. He supports whatever path I take and I support his. We both got married late in life so we’re both settled into our ways. As an artist, he understands the need for creative outlets. He’s not threatened by my love of the spotlight. That kind of understanding and patience in relationship is super important to me.

My son is awesome and 23 and doing 23 years old things. I’m a single mom so it’s always been just me and him until I met my husband. I hope I have instilled in him my brazen sense of adventure. He is off on his own exploits now and I am jumping head first into this new chapter in my life…as always!
