Today we’d like to introduce you to Levi Otis.
Hi Levi, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I’m a program manager where I manage case managers who work with the homeless population. By trade, I’m an indie filmmaker and content creator. My being interested in filmmaker starts early back in high school where I started attending drama club. There I studied the area of storytelling. I use to write plays we would perform during lunchtime. I had created my first school soap opera. Which was a hit at school. During college, I was also in a drama club. Here I focused more on comedy and realized that I was funny. After college, I moved to California to find a job in my field and make money, not thinking too much about anything else. One day I was in the mall and a guy walked up to me and asked if I acted. I told him I did in college. He mentioned that he liked my look and gave me his card. My friend told me to call the guy. I did and he booked me for a Gap commercial. It was there my interest in the business was awaken. I met like-minded people. I did lots of extra work and working on indie projects. This one project they were paying us in cheap pizza. Which was fine. But the way they spoke with cast, the people who were working for free, I did not like. So I decided I wanted to write my own project and treat cast and crew with respect. My first web series was called underPAID about a dysfunctional staff who worked for pennies in a group home, who were not idea to work with youth. I won a few film festival awards and the magic happened there.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has been some bumps in the road. Far as filming in Cali everything is expensive and it is hard to find free locations after you have used all your friend’s places, lol. Building a reliable crew offered it’s challenges, because some were around for the now. Dealing with Actors who you have given a break too and they cancel last minute not understanding they could potentially ruin film day. Or Actors not being prepared. Yeah there were a few challenges lol
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I create a lot of comedy series. With all the hate going on in life right now, we need to laugh. And this is where my dedication is right now. To keep the world smiling.
How do you think about luck?
Luck, the fact that I have build an audience, there are people who willing to support my dream and will donate money to my projects to help me get them made. It’s more of a blessing really.
