Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
There has been so many obstacles along this long journey. So many times, I questioned my journey and if I was making the right moves. What I have learned is to take the chance. JUMP… When you are scared of something when something is intimidating or you feel hesitant and you fear the outcome… that’s exactly where you need to be. Everything you want is on the other side of fear. I still struggle with the fear of the unknown, but I know I am strong and I am resilient. Everything always works itself out. Life has so many lessons, but reminding yourself of difficult roads leads to beautiful destinations. I trust myself and I know the universe has my back…
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I have extensive training and specialization in precision cutting and styling techniques. I have mastered the skills of men’s grooming, event styling and editorial/runway. I have worked the runways of New York Fashion week and has traveled all over the world servicing clients and working on exclusive projects. I have worked with so many talented individuals and continue to grow and evolve as an artist.
With all of the runways and projects I have been a part of, my favorite part of it all is the long-lasting relationships I have created with my clients. I consider my clients my friends. We have been apart of each other’s journeys and I have watched their children grow and have been there for them during their highest highs and lowest lows and vice-versa. My clients have supported me through the years and for that, I am forever grateful.
Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
This business can be rough. It is super competitive. And a lot of stylists will not want to take the time to help you, don’t let that detour you from what you want.
I have found that new talent typically comes into this business with a little bit of a chip on their shoulder and sometimes not willing to work hard. My advice is to be a sponge, soak up all that you can everyone. Know that like in any career, you will have to start from the bottom and climb the ladder. Realize you DON’T know it all and it’s okay to take constructive criticism from your peers. I never settled for a no. If I reached a dead end, I would turn around and take an alternate route. I had major goals and really had to navigate my own direction. It can be extremely daunting, but remaining positive and staying grounded and true to yourself and others will take you far in this crazy world of beauty. Don’t sweat the small stuff and be ready to work hard for what you want.
