Today we’d like to introduce you to Camila Senna.
Hi Camila, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’m a Brazilian born in Sao Paulo in 1994. I started sharing my life publicly with people nine years ago when social media took its first big steps. I never had the dream to become an influencia OR an actress at that time, I thought my destine was to be a journalist and share true stories with people, but life had a different plan for me. In a year, I gained 500k followers – and that was A LOT for that time. My life Took a 360º spin and I ended up making content for Instagram and YouTube for more than eight years as my full-time job. That brought me a lot of amazing opportunities, one of them related to Acting. I was invited to be a special guest at a friend’s play – and I absolutely loved it. What was supposed to be one night became two weeks and then became another play for two seasons. I just Felt different on stage, fulfilled, full of purpose, as if I was exactly where I was meant to be. Then and there, I realized I had to pursue Acting. I had already done a few workshops before, but I knew that if I wanted this for real this time, I had to give more to it. So I decided to leave my home country Brazil and all the stability that I had at my job at the time, my house, my car, my family and friends to move to LA, the epicenter of it all – and learn as much as I could in a year. I took the one year workshop at New York Film Academy and then decided I would stay for my OPT. In the meantime, I found the love of my live, who is nos my husband and I got myself an Agent and a manager surprisingly fast, but then the pandemic hit all of us. Thankfully up to this Day, I have the Great blessing of being on Set working Weekly and finally seeing more opportunities come up. I’m excited for what’s to come and one thing is for sure: I Will not give up.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
It for sure has been a crazy road so far. Like insane. To start with the fact that I left a perfect “safe” life in Brazil for a path full of uncertainties. My life changed completely and there’s not one Single Day when I don’t miss my Family and friends or even the smallest things from my Home country. There’s a LOT of competition in LA, this City is crazy and it can be very overwhelming. The timing of everything is much faster than I would expect and to start from zero one more time on a different area is definitely challenging. There were times where I thought about giving up, several times where I considered going back home. You receive so many no’s that you kind of get used to it and I also decided to start right when a world pandemic hit all of us and work was definitely scarce. But I Believe in fighting hard for what you want and I have a very strong feeling in my heart that this is what I am supposed to be doing. I Believe that those who “make it” are the ones who Don’t give up on their dreams, so that’s what I am doing. The road is not smooth, but you definitely find several blessings on your way if you keep moving forward.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am currently an actress, model, host and content creator amongst other things. I currently host a show at the Hollywire Brazilian channel for Samsung TV and I have a movie coming up pretty soon called “Under the influence” that was completely shot during the pandemic – it was a totally different and CRAZY experience by the way and I can’t wait to see it! I’ve always been in the creative realm, I believe it runs in my blood since my dad is an artist, so no matter what I do, I never fall too far from the tree. I still invest in creating content for my social media and I am also opening my own Creative Agency with my partner – thais Xabu – called UAU AGENCY. We basically specialize ourselves in creating social media content for brands and I absolutely love it. If you live in LA and pursue acting, you probably have a lot of jobs and I’m blessed to love all the things that have come my way.
A big part of my focus is on acting, so it’s amazing to have job opportunities where I can work from home and be more independent. I believe that what sets me apart from others is that no matter what I do, I don’t lose my focus and I don’t give up. It’s hard to keep fighting when things don’t go your way, but art has been in my life since I was a baby and it is the only thing I see myself doing, so I keep fighting no matter the odds, and somehow things end up turning my way. I also believe everything has a reason and a moment to be, so I just keep going, not feeling defeated on the way, just waiting for my moment. It’s easy to get in the trap of wanting things, roles, jobs so much that you end up betraying yourself. I’m focused and patient and I know it will pay off.
Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
If this is what you want, don’t give up. Don’t nurture the bad thoughts, the hurtful thoughts, the insecurities, the impostor syndrome. It’s easy to get caught up in them and not do what you have to do to get where you want. Once I saw this phrase that stuck with me: “picture who you want to be and start showing up as her”. That’s what I do, one step at a time, setting small goals everyday that will take me to where I want to be. Maybe you have big dreams, and they probably seem unrealistic right now or too far from you, but what are the steps you can take every day to get you closer to it? Some people have to luck to start right away, but most of us have to build our own paths, so build it with patience and grace, believing in yourself, loving yourself, cheering for yourself. Celebrate EVERY victory. and you didn’t get this role? It’s ok! Up an on cause there are more opportunities ahead waiting for you.
