Today we’d like to introduce you to Saliou M’Boup.
Hi Saliou, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I was watching a live performance from Jimi Hendrix on TV when I was five years old when I knew that’s what I gotta do. I’ve got kinda close to that dream, still like playing guitar but I haven’t set one on fire yet. Maybe with this stimulus check…. I’ve traveled across the ocean to compete in Esports tournaments. I’ve played in bands and recorded my own music, I’ve worked a lot of different jobs and met some crazy friends. Whether I’m playing a tune or running a virtual fade, I love to express personality and creativity through my works.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
“A smooth sea never made a skilled sailor.” Like all of us, my journey has featured a few twists and bumps in the road. Growing up with a single mother in LA comes with its perks and challenges. My mom has been my superhero since I can remember and hugely influence to my music. I feel blessed to have incredible people in my life that inspire and push me forward everyday. Putting a few smiles on their faces is what it’s all about, man.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I love making all kinds of sounds. Been playing instruments for as long as I could hold them and recently got into stringing words together. Both of my parents are huge creative influences. My mother is a prolific dancer, designer, and classically trained pianist from NYC, & My father is master drummer from Senegal. Music is my life and my experiences are my art. It’s hard for me to say genres or categorizing my music, I really just go with the flow. I think when you have the right intentions and follow through with your ideas that shits gonna slap regardless of how u wanna label it. I’m proud of all of my projects, they represent my journey and continuous growth as an artist. I just wanna make dope art and elevate the world around me.
Who else deserves credit in your story?
LUV U MOM n SIS <3 So many people have inspired me. Dane Ferguson brought a whole studio setup in his backpack to record my debut EP, Coffee, Socks, Weed at my house after work one day. I’ve spent countless nights shooting the breeze with Dayne Plescia, plotting world domination & freestyling over different beats. I’ve had co-workers and managers at some of my numerous odd jobs that believed in my art and wanted me to succeed. Each and every one of my friends inspire me with their expression and creativity. I would list out each of them but my fingers would cramp from all the typing.
