Today we’d like to introduce you to Billy Thomas.
Hi Billy, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I became a part-time entrepreneur as soon as I graduated college all because my little brother asked me if I could take him to the park and help him get better at football. The more we trained the more I seen him progress as an athlete, which planted the vision for me that I can really do this training thing and help more young men become the best possible athlete they could. I personally had the dream of playing Division 1 football but the dream didn’t come true. I went on to play Division 3 but looking back on it, I now know my work ethic wasn’t matching my athletic goals I had so I wanted to pay it forward and be honest with young men about what it’s really going to take to get to the next level.
I started my sports performance training company Grindathon Athletics and started training part-time around being a full-time substitute teacher and a high school football coach. My brand slowly started to grow and a lot of kids started to take notice of what I was doing. I blasted social media as much as I could, posting every single work, every single athlete. I prided myself in training any kid no matter how talented or untalented they were. However the more I committed to helping my athletes become the best I started to let myself go physically, gained 30 lbs from the weight I graduated college at. Which led me to want to lose weight, however nothing I was doing was working for eight months. That’s how I stumbled across Herbalife Nutrition. Someone told me try the shakes, they said my nutrition was horrible and that’s why I wasn’t getting the results. I tried it and my first three days I lost 11 lbs! So I knew these products worked immediately. They told me that I could also help others get results and make some extra money doing so, so I signed up. Now making me a personal trainer, teacher, football coach, and health coach. I went super hard with everything I was doing in life from 2017-2019. But once the pandemic hit in 2020, I was no longer able to coach football or teach. All I had left was my training brand and herbalife.
So I went all in, long story short I did amazing. I hit the top 6% of the entire Herbalife company and my training clients been coming in like crazy. This crazy time helped me realize that I loved training and helping others become healthy way more than teaching or coaching football. I chose to walk away from teaching and coaching forever. I now a run Grindathon Athletics full time while doing Herbalife part-time. I now have the time freedom I use to dream of but the best part is I am now in the position to help impact and change so many more lives physically mentally and financially than I ever would as a teacher or a coach. Becoming an entrepreneur changed my life forever and I’m truly excited for what’s in store. Grindathon grew from 1 athlete and 1 sport to the opportunity of training 100s of differ athletes, all ages and all sports. I currently have two amazing trainers on my Grindathon Staff who help me with all of our exceptional athletes. And as far as Herbalife goes, I went from just wanting to lose weight myself to now having an organization who is currently in the top 6% of the entire company and we are trending to hit the top 2% of the company by the end of 2021. I hold group workouts every night at a Nutrition Club in Carson, CA and we have 40-60 people coming out every single night. The vision is to have both my businesses under the same roof very soon.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has been no where near a smooth road! Struggles I had to overcome were my own ego, comparing myself or my business to others, opinions of family/friends, and learning to be patient.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
At Grindathon Athletics, we do what we do to help build and shape young athletes from boys and girls into unstoppable young Kings and Queens both on and off the field. We enhance the quality of life in every aspect of the student-athlete. The primary areas our organization can guarantee to improve in any athlete with our sports performance training program is agility, strength, speed, conditioning, position-specific skills, and confidence. In my Herbalife business, I strive to help others become healthier, happier, and the absolute best version of themselves. With 80% nutrition, 20% fitness, 100% mindset anything is possible. I help others lose weight, drop body fat, drop inches, gain lean muscle, or gain energy. All my Herbalife nutrition programs for my clients include 1on1 coaching, a detailed 30 day meal guide, snack list, grocery list, personalized eating schedule, and home workout routines.
Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
My mother Eileen Resendez: raised me completely on her own and instilled a mentality of perseverance, grit, and ambition in me at a very young age. My little brother Robby Robinson: without him asking me to train him in 2017, there would be no Grindathon Athletics and I wouldn’t be where I am at today. My mentors Eddie Witt, Timmie Phillips, and Keyon Owens: without these men showing me what’s possible within this Herbalife Opportunity and seeing more in me than I seen in myself early on, I wouldn’t be in the top 6% of this company. My team of trainers Isai Huerta and Aery Earl: without them Grindathon wouldn’t have been able to grow to the scale where are at today! My organization of Health Coaches: without them I wouldn’t be in the top 6% of the company and we wouldn’t be positively impacting as many people’s lives through health and wellness.
